Xenjin's Neon Genesis Evangelion Tv Review

Rated: 7

Evangelion's sequential science fiction adaptation of the Kaballah faith has its strengths and weaknesses. I will briefly highlight them here:

Strengths:
- The sound was definitely the best of its time, when this release came out in 1996/97
- The artwork has since been superceded by more modern titles, but still stands on its own as a labour of love
- The storyline is one of the most sophisticated (if not the most convoluted) ever crafted
- It is not all about giant robots. There is a significant dramatic ensemble here. Academy award worthy.
- The plot is not quite as simplistic as a first time viewer might think.
- The first japanimé to introduce true philosophical depth to a story

Weaknesses:
- Few anime titles have dared to tackle philosophy and get away with it.

Xenjin's Excel Saga Tv Review

There is no sequentialism. Almost every episode can stand on its own. You can watch almost any given episode of Excel Saga and be guaranteed to not have missed anything. Don't expect story continuity or cohesiveness here. The anime has one intention and that is to make you laugh. It is all about slapstick humor and extreme dark comedy - all while trying to take over the world. Everything else is sacrificed to this end.

You can watch Excel Saga without thinking about what you are watching and still be moderately entertained. It wasn't designed to engage the audience, or cause them to feel empathy or identify with any of its characters.

Xenjin's Naruto Tv Review

Naruto is definitely one of the most fascinating anime series to come out in a loooong time. As I had said before, it provides a fresh new take on the ninjutsu genre of anime. We have long been bombarded with Samurai / Ninja anime series/movies with the same recurrent themes of revenge and reluctant heroes. Naruto completely redefines this genre in a way that would make it suitable for many kinds of entertainment adaptations. The reasons for this are because of its originality. However, some entertainment elements draw too close a similarity to another epic anime series such as Dragon Ball Z.
